It is not only a modern-day ark of rare and beautiful plants, but a place where education and conservation are at the heart of their mission and run as deep as the tranquil ponds and seasonal waterfalls that flow through.

Since founded in 1987, visitation is at an all-time high. In order to meet the growing demand, Quarryhill needs more docents. The need to raise awareness and educate people on how to protect endangered plants is greater than ever before as described by the Executive Director of Quarryhill, William McNamara: “In this rapidly changing world, one of the great unspoken tragedies is the loss of plant and animal species throughout the world. Quarryhill is playing a leading role in creating awareness about this crisis and is actively preserving hundreds of endangered plants. Let’s work together to do everything we can to make it possible for our grandchildren and their children to inherit the same beautiful and wonderful world of countless unique plants and animals.”

In addition to the environmental education benefits of volunteering at Quarryhill, there are also many personal and social benefits as well, such as: meeting new people, making friends, connecting with your community, making a difference in people’s lives, and so much more.

If you want to volunteer, but are afraid you don’t know enough about plants, don’t worry! You don’t need to have a botanical or horticultural background to be a docent. They will teach you everything you need to know. Training will be held on 5 Wednesdays, March 2nd – 30th, from 9:00-12:30 p.m. To sign up, call Eva Corbin at 707.996.6027 or email her at ecorbin@quarryhillbg.org.
