There is an exciting new opportunity to give back and pay it forward at Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County. CAP Sonoma is seeking to fill 3-Board of Director vacancies to complete their 15 member Board.

Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County has been helping people and changing lives in Sonoma County for 49 years. CAP Sonoma serves over 9,000 low income families per year. We offer 24 different programs that are focused in four key areas in our community: Community Engagement, Health & Wellness, Education, and Financial Stability known as C.H.E.F.

The North Coast Resource Conservation & Development Council seeks volunteers to assist in our resource protection and sustainable agriculture programs. We work with youth in water conservation, pollinator habitat plantings, and more. Qualified candidates should be self-starters, organized, and work well in teams.

Thriftique, a Santa Rosa thrift store that benefits the students at Kawana Academy of Arts and Sciences, needs help with various tasks, such as assisting customers, pricing merchandise and cashiering. Volunteers are needed four to eight hours a week. Contact Lisa at 479-9566.

Help families become more self-sufficient

Catholic Charities seeks volunteer mentors to assist families transitioning from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Mentors offer emotional support, life-skills advice and a link to community resources. Qualified candidates should be approachable and compassionate. They’ll be provided with training, resources, staff support, and a flexible schedule.

Youth needed for workshops, camps

The Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center needs student volunteers to help with spring and summer programs, workshops and camps. Kids can have fun while gaining valuable experience and helping their community.

The St. Patrick’s Day 5K will be held on March 13 at Juilliard Park. Don’t want to run? Join in on the fun by volunteering as a course monitor. The annual race, now in its 5th year, benefits the Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks Scholarship Fund.

Docents Needed at Quarryhill Botanical Garden

Quarryhill is a 25-acre woodland botanical garden nestled in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains, featuring over 20,000 wild-origin plants in a naturalistic setting. It is not only a modern-day ark of rare and beautiful plants, but a place where education and conservation are at the heart of their mission and run as deep as the tranquil ponds and seasonal waterfalls that flow through.

Since founded in 1987, visitation is at an all-time high. In order to meet the growing demand, Quarryhill needs more docents. The need to raise awareness and educate people on how to protect endangered plants is greater than ever before as described by the Executive Director of Quarryhill, William McNamara: “In this rapidly changing world, one of the great unspoken tragedies is the loss of plant and animal species throughout the world. Quarryhill is playing a leading role in creating awareness about this crisis and is actively preserving hundreds of endangered plants. Let’s work together to do everything we can to make it possible for our grandchildren and their children to inherit the same beautiful and wonderful world of countless unique plants and animals.”

In addition to the environmental education benefits of volunteering at Quarryhill, there are also many personal and social benefits as well, such as: meeting new people, making friends, connecting with your community, making a difference in people’s lives, and so much more.

If you want to volunteer, but are afraid you don’t know enough about plants, don’t worry! You don’t need to have a botanical or horticultural background to be a docent. They will teach you everything you need to know.
